Cottage Health provides comprehensive services across the continuum of medical care, including Outpatient Infusion treatments. There are two Infusion Suites at Cottage Health; Santa Barbra Cottage Hospital and Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital.

What is Infusion Therapy?
Infusion therapy involves the administration of medication through a port or catheter. It is prescribed when a patient’s condition is such that it cannot be treated effectively by oral medications.
Typically, “infusion therapy” means that a drug is administered intravenously, but the term also may refer to situations where drugs are provided through other non-oral routes, such as intramuscular or subcutaneous injections.
Benefits of Infusion Therapy
The intravenous route is the fastest way to deliver medications and fluid replacement throughout the body, because they are introduced directly into the circulation. Intravenous therapy may be used for fluid volume replacement, to correct electrolyte imbalances, to deliver medications, and for blood transfusions.

What to Expect During Your Appointment
Each Infusion Suite at Cottage Heath serves the community uniquely, so check with yours in regard to what to expect. Wearing loose fitting clothes allows the medical staff to easily and properly monitor your vital signs. Consider wearing clothing with layers to allow for temperature control.
