Ambulatory Clinic Experience

The Ambulatory Clinic Experience is at the center of pediatric residency training as this is where residents learn the basics of normal and abnormal examinations, common pediatric concerns, and childhood development.

The residents will have two blocks of ambulatory clinic experience in the first and second years; there is an option of one additional block in their third year. The ambulatory experience will expose residents to acute care visits for common pediatric complaints, normal and abnormal physical and emotional growth and development, health promotion and disease prevention, management of chronic and acute medical conditions, as well as family and environmental issues as they affect the child.

Goleta Neighbood Clinic

Advocates for Change

The ambulatory clinic experience for Cottage Children’s Medical Center pediatric residents is based within a Federally-Qualified Health Center, the Goleta Neighborhood Clinic. Our mission is that residents will learn to provide comprehensive care to underserved populations, while also becoming attuned to the ways in we can address the barriers to health that are created by social, racial and cultural inequities.

Residents who complete the pediatric residency at Cottage Children’s Medical Center will be prepared to become advocates for change and work toward improved care for vulnerable populations.
