Valuing Diverse Talents and Backgrounds

At Cottage Health, we value the diverse talents and backgrounds that make each of our residents unique.

As an academic teaching hospital for some of the top residents in our country, we:

  • Prepare our residents for interaction with diverse individuals
  • Foster an inclusive work environment
  • Recruit and retain a diverse group of residents for our four programs.

Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine Grant

The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital received a 2022 grant from the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine to Advance Health Equity through Community Partnership and Interprofessional Residency Education: A Two-Year Workshop Series.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee

Residents from all Cottage Residency programs participate in the hospital’s DEI Task Force.

Committed to Community Outreach

Internal Medicine residents enjoy an environment of collegiality and teamwork, providing incredible opportunities for learning and community outreach. We honor each resident’s idealism and spirit, rather than draining those traits.

Internal Medicine residents give back to the local Santa Barbara community.

One example is the partnership with San Marcos High School’s Health Occupations Students of America with Internal Medicine residents offering POCUS demonstrations to students onsite as part of a health education class.

Women in Medicine

Events are held throughout the year for residents from all GME programs, attending physicians and coordinators.
