Thank you for your interest in our program! The Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital (SBCH) diagnostic radiology residency program offers a dynamic, collaborative, and professional work environment within Cottage Health, which comprises five hospitals.
At Cottage, we take great pride in being a Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center. As a tertiary referral center for the California central coast, we hold advanced certifications for comprehensive stroke center, total hip and total knee replacement, and cardiac STEMI receiving station, among other distinguished designations. Our residents train at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, recently named one of Seramount’s 100 Best Companies for Working Parents in (2024)!
Our program offers substantial learning opportunities and other benefits that allow for excellent training and comfortable living. The combination of a high volume of studies, smaller residency size, independent call, and absence of fellows allows for significant autonomy and graduated responsibility.
Starting from R1 year, residents are immersed in all modalities, subspecialties, and hands on image-guided procedures. While research and educational endeavors are optional, many residents choose to participate, broadening their knowledge and professional growth. The program also offers various stipends (meal, housing, education/books), conference reimbursement, and wellness incentives, promoting a healthy and comfortable living and learning environment.
Furthermore, our residents rotate at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and have the option to partake in elective rotations at the University of Southern California. These rotations expose our residents to diverse patient populations, pathology, and environments.
Additionally, Santa Barbara itself is a beautiful city, often referred to as the "American Riviera." Renowned for its beauty and vibrancy, it offers a remarkable backdrop for a fulfilling work-life balance.
