The Cottage Health New Graduate Nurse Training Program assists new nurses with their transition to practice. The foundation of the program consists of clinical preceptorship, simulation and task training, reflection and debriefing.

The initial role transition for a new nurse is a physical, emotional, developmental and intellectual process that creates a personal and professional transformation (Duchscher, 2011). To successfully complete this transformation, new nurses need the support of their organization, nurse leaders and colleagues.

Cottage Health provides a 8 month nurse residency program combining classroom, simulation and clinical preceptorship (preceptorship lengths vary by specialty).

In alignment with our commitment to nursing excellence, the Cottage Health New Graduate Nurse Training Program provides an environment that supports role development of the new nurse, and reinforces lifelong learning.

New Graduate Nurse

“Without the support of the orientation program...it would have been immensely more difficult to transition to hospital based nursing. The staff that runs and teaches the new grads is without doubt key. They were nothing short of amazing, not only in their clinical expertise, but in their ability to relate to everyone in class.
