What is Recruitment Fraud?

Recruitment fraud is a scam where cybercriminals and bad actors offer fake or scam job opportunities. It is usually sent through online services, such as fake websites or fake company emails. These websites and emails ask you to provide personal information, login credentials, and payment or credit card information to process job applications for postings that do not exist.

Do not send money to anyone claiming to secure a job posting with Cottage Health.
Cottage Health will never ask you for payment to process documents or applications, refer you to a third-party to process an application or visa, or ask you to pay other costs as part of the recruitment process. If you suspect you have received a fraudulent job offer, please contact your local authorities.

How Do I Know If It’s Recruitment Fraud?

  • Any email or website purporting to be for recruitment for a job posting at Cottage Health from non-Cottage sources should be considered suspicious.
  • Authentic emails from Cottage Health will always be sent from "@sbch.org" email addresses.
  • Fraudsters or bad actors may use mobile text messages or telephone numbers beginning with +44(0)70 instead of official company numbers.
  • Bad actors may offer to pay a large percentage of the fees requested as an incentive, then ask you to pay the remaining amount.
  • The offer often comes with a "this offer expires very soon" message to get you to act immediately by creating a sense of urgency

What Should I Do If I Get a Recruitment Fraud Offer?

  • Contact your local authorities.
  • Do not respond to the original sender.
  • Block the email sender or text contact.
