Proceeds Benefit SYVCHF Auxiliary Honorary Scholarship Fund to Advance Local Healthcare Workforce Event Honored 60 Years of Support from the New To You Shop
Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital Foundation (SVCHF) raised nearly $20,000 at Vintage Vogue, a Valley Fashion Show and Brunch, held on June 24. The event benefited the SYVCHF’s Auxiliary Honorary Scholarship Fund, helping to advance the local healthcare workforce of tomorrow. The event also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the SYVCH New To You Shop and the dedicated volunteers who provide longstanding support for the hospital.
“Community engagement plays a vital role in helping Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital to be one of the best rural hospitals in the country,” said Judith Dale, SVCHF President. “This generous and giving community came out in force. A big thank you to all our volunteers, sponsors, donors and event attendees.”
More than 100 people attended the event held at the Craft House in Solvang. Festivities included shopping booths hosted by Hammered Hoops and Labyrinth Jewelry, followed by brunch and a fashion show. Several volunteers, scholarship recipients and Cottage staff walked the runway, including Carol Anders, Briana Castro, Charles Kirkby, Jessica Perez, Inge Plier, Teresa Soto, Holly Thrasher and Renee Solnit, the fashion show dresser. They modeled the latest fashions from local clothing stores: First Street Leather, (IN) Larkin, Kahunas, Rowan Leigh, Treats and New To You Shop. Proceeds from the event support scholarships for aspiring and promising healthcare workers.
Through the Auxiliary Honorary Scholarship Fund and three philanthropic funds, SYVCHF annually awards scholarships to Santa Ynez Valley residents pursuing healthcare careers. These scholarships help offset the increasing costs of a college education and can be used to pay for tuition, books and other educational expenditures. The upcoming annual healthcare scholarship awards luncheon will announce the 2023 scholarship recipients and will be held on August 23 at the Elverhøj Museum of History and Art in Solvang.
“Hospitals, especially rural community hospitals, are experiencing shortages of nurses, technicians and other essential clinical staff,” said Katie Gorndt, SYVCH Vice President and Nursing Director. “These scholarships are one more valuable tool we can use to attract and retain a quality clinical staff to serve our community.”
The event also celebrated 60 Years of the New To You Shop and the generous support the Santa Ynez Valley community provides to our local hospital. From the beginning, local volunteers have operated the shop selling “gently used” and “vintage” merchandise, with all proceeds benefiting Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital. The New To You Shop is located at 1689 Oak Street in Solvang. Hours of operation are Friday through Monday from Noon – 3 p.m.
To the audience, Gorndt shared that in 2022, the hospital received over 18,000 volunteer hours from the community. “It is heartwarming to see such selflessness and generosity in action,” she said.
The SYVCHF extends a special thanks to local sponsors and event supporters, including Title Sponsor Gerry Shepherd, along with Rio Vista Chevrolet, Montecito Bank & Trust, South Coast Emergency Medical Group, Craft House at Corque and all of the dedicated volunteers and supporters of the New To You Shop.
